How we verify

What we check on every activity

• The price, on the page. We look for an explicit fee, or confirm no payment step exists in the enrollment flow. Free content with a paid certificate is not free, and we flag it as a trap rather than listing it.
• Membership conditions. “Free for members” is not free. Society CME that requires dues is excluded and documented on our dead links page.
• The accreditation and credit designation statement. We record the exact credit type. Where a provider labels something generically as “CME” without spelling out AMA PRA Category 1, we say so, because some boards require the exact wording.
• The expiration date. This is what kills most lists. We record it and display it, and we re-check on each pass.
• Eligibility restrictions. Some genuinely free courses are open only to one state’s licensees or one health system’s staff. We mark those.

Where the requirement data comes from

State requirement summaries are derived from the Federation of State Medical Boards’ Continuing Medical Education Board-by-Board Overview, the most authoritative consolidated source available, supplemented by individual board publications where a board maintains its own accepted-course list — Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Texas and New York all do.

What we deliberately do not do

We do not accept payment for placement, and no listing position is for sale. We do not gate anything behind a login. We do not claim that an activity satisfies a requirement when the provider has not said so — where we think a course fits a mandate by subject matter but nobody has confirmed it, we say that plainly and tell you to check with your board.

Corrections

The whole premise here is that the list is accurate on the day you read it. If something has expired, started charging, or stopped counting, we want to know.
